Mid-air course correction plus additional vertical and horizontal movement is a very powerful ability to have in a game where quick and precise platforming is rewarded. An ancient temple full of traps has a treasure at the very end, and you want it. Armed Phantom Abyss with your trusty whip, you'll race through the temple, avoiding dangerous pitfalls and angry temple guardians. Unfortunately, if you die, you'll never be able to try this particular iteration of the temple again.
In terms of consistency, I'd say the void whip is the best. Disabling the guardian is hands down the strongest thing there is and it allows you to take as much time as you need for most rooms.
